Seriously! What was wrong with those (nonstopping) pick-up drivers?! However, there was something worse than them: The people who would stop for you, about 20 or 30 feet up the road, and then floor it when you came within five feet of their car. Usually you'd hear cackles of laughter as they sped away. St. Peter will certainly put up the "sold out" sign at the Pearly Gates when those guys show up...

Once when I was hitching in Wyoming, some kids slowed down and yelled out the window, “is your name Jell-O?” When I said no, they shouted “too bad, there’s always room for Jell-O!” and sped off.

How about those hitchhikers who "cut in line" when a car pulled over and more than 1 person was hitchhiking? Hitchhikers have etiquette, too! You should write a book. You could be the Emily Post of Hitchhiker Etiquette!

Hey Danny! I like reading what you write! It brings back many good memories! I had a 1970 blue Ford pickup and drove between Boulder and Estes Park twice a week for 4 years! I always picked up hitchhikers and put them in the back. I met my good friend Johnny Elliot picking him up hitchhiking. He tells a funny story about my bad driving practices. Keep on keeping on the writing path!
